Diploma in Early Childhood Education

Hello!

I decided to make a personal blog post on Diploma in Early Childhood Education. The course that I finished a few months ago. It was not easy to find any information regarding the course other than from a university's website. But I wanted to know more than the course syllabus. I wanted to know what it was all about, the experience , the good and the bad. I hope that this post will be helpful if you are planning to major in Education or Early Childhood Education.

I chose to do the Diploma in Early Childhood Education after volunteering in a preschool in Qatar ( in high school ) for 6 months. I've always known that I didn't mind being around children but after being around children constantly I found out that I love being around them. Before you decide on being a teacher especially for younger children , make sure that it is your passion to be with them.

In my own words, Diploma in Early Childhood Education is a course that will shape you into being an amazing Early Childhood Teacher. A professional Early Childhood teacher. I learned everything from health and safety and nutrition to being able to teach every single subject for young children. It'll teach you how to teach math, music, literacy , science and much more for young children. Some of the assignments will require you to work with children. This means that you'll have to get a permission from a school to work with the children. The course taught me everything about young children. From 0 - 6 years old. So you will learn everything from pregnancy until kindergarten or even year 1. My course is a total of 2 years and half of full time study and practicum.

I did my practicum at a lovely Montessori preschool. It is one of the best time in my life. I was able to put what I've learned in college into practice. I learned how to manage children better. Because when you work with the children for your assignments you don't work with them everyday. Whilst in practicum, you do. During my course I took the First aid certificate as well. The certificate lasts for 2 years. Although it is not necessary it is good to know the basic first aid especially when you are working with young children.

Now I'm in the process of pursuing a degree in Psychology. If you are planning to do Early Childhood Education as a degree, diploma or certificate. Make sure that working with young children is your passion. Your lecturer , mentor and yourself will be able to see whether you have the passion in working with young children.
